BILLFISH 15000 E ven though the field was smaller this year, compe on was fierce and a total of 40 Billfish were caught and released. Difficult condi ons were the order of the week but this did not lessen the enthusiasm and determina on of those taking part. Despite their best efforts and some excellent catches, none could outdo local angler and skipper, Elize Smith and her team (on Mrs Seevarkie), who streaked ahead to an overwhelming victory. Their four Marlin – two Striped and a Blue caught on Day three and a Black on the last day - notched up an amazing 1123 points. They went home with the CarryCat 670 with 2 x 70hp Yamaha motors, on a t ra i l e r, O n e Ye a r C o m p l i m e nta r y insurance from Club Marine, clothing for R25 000 and other prizes – making the total prize worth a whopping R750 000. The team also won an invita on to fish in the IGFA World Championships in Costa Rica next year. Their closest rivals in second place were last year's winners, Michael Fourie and team – on Captain Fine – with 510 points. (They hooked the Lowrance prize – an HDS 12 Gen 3 fishfinder worth R53 200! ). 14
