These are just some of the items which have been in the news recently: Congratulations to the South African Police for arresting 24 people for suspected illegal Abalone poaching near Robben Island. When the escape boat skippers became aware of the approaching police presence, they sped off, leaving the divers behind in the sea!! Seven of them were later found hiding between rocks near the harbour wall at the island’s Murray’s Bay. They all appeared in court for transgressing the Marine Living Resource Act (Protection of wild abalone).
