Lowrance SA brand ambassador and this issue’s cover
angler, Michael Cannon, recently won the latest FLW
tournament Trial. Congrats Michael! He sent us the
following report:
“On Saturday my father and I
fished the 8th leg of the FLW
tournament trail . It was a cool
winters morning at Inanda dam
and we were ready for a tough
event and with some the top names
and Protea anglers in the mix, we
knew we had our work cut out for
us. I managed to get out on the
water two weeks prior to the event
for a practice while demo’ing my
new Lowrance HDS live units and
Fishtec charts for a potential new
Lowrance customer.
The Fishing was slow but we
managed to locate populations
of keeper fish off shore using the
Fishtec charts paired with the
Lowrance Fish reveal tech on the
downscan. Fish reveal makes life
easy as the screen lights up with
fish arches when passing over good
areas and has become a crucial
tool in my tournament success.
Tournament morning arrived and
immediately was met with a surprise
as the water had dropped a lot.
This changed some of the shallower
areas that were previously very
difficult to fish because of the sheer
amount of water hyacinths covering
areas currently on Inanda dam. The
hyacinth had “thinned” out due to
the drop in dam level and many of
the plants were left high and dry
on the banks.. So from previous
experience we immediately got to
work targeting hyacinth edges that
were suspended over six to 20 foot
of water. Anywhere we picked up a
harder bottom mixed with timber
seemed to be the key.
This was easy to pick up using my
Lowrance HDS Live units.
