LOWRANCE SOUTH AFRICA Issue 27 | Page 9

Even though the comp did produce some good results, most competitors claimed that the fishing was much more difficult than usual. The weather and water current build-up meant that the first few competition days were not as anglers expected. Many experienced competitors did not find their usual results at their favourite waypoints, and many had to change their tactics in order to land fish. There was quite a strong south-easterly just before the comp, and the northerly Mozambican current on the outside created a reverse current on the inside, especially down south. This was not ideal as fish felt the results of the reverse current. Fish were quite lethargic and even though Lowrance units displayed decent showings, many of the fish didn’t bite. Even the baitfish were small. However, luckily things changed on the final day of the comp - the north to south current came into play and more fish started to bite. Weigh-in closed at 15:30 on most days- apart from Friday which called for an earlier close; 14:30. Boats and jetskis enjoyed four full days out on the water.
