This year a total of 60 skiboats and 17 jetskis entered the Guinjata Bonanza. This is an impressive number considering the border-crossing and long travel time to get there. But the location is beautiful, and the waters provide for lots of exciting fishing action. It is also a very well-run and social comp - a fun week for all competitors and their families. The main prize is a big draw card – competitors stand a chance to win a boat on a trailer! A 19-ft Explorer Evo equipped with two Yamaha 70hp 4-stroke motors PLUS insurance for one year. This exciting prize goes to the biggest fish - whether caught off a jetski or a skiboat. The comp runs over five days- Monday through to Friday. Monday was very cold and windy- the one and only blow-out day. Anglers enjoyed the following four beautiful fishing days. Although the main prize can be won by either a skiboat angler or a jetski angler, there are also prizes awarded separately, to both jetski and skiboat anglers- namely species and points prizes. Different species are allocated varying points per kg- so some species are more valuable than others. This relates to the skill needed to catch certain species - some fish are more difficult to land in these waters than others. With so many prizes up for grabs at the Guinjata Bonanza, everyone stands a chance to win!
