CARP ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIPS (February 10th – 13th) One of the most challenging disciplines in the World Fishing Games, had to be the Carp Championships. The 104 anglers from 24 countries, needed all their concentration, stamina and discipline, to successfully compete in this 72-hour non-stop fishing event. The Championships were held along the shores of Bloemhof Dam – at Bamboesspruit and Verlatenkraal. The teams were accommodated in the town of Bloemhof. (Very few women take part in Carp Fishing and there was only one lady angler, who came from Spain). Most of the competitors attended the Opening Ceremony in Sandton and that night the Captains meeting took place at a lodge in Bloemhof. In the morning, North West Parksboard hosted another opening function at Bamboesspruit with a buffet meal, flag raising ceremony and official speeches by Pieter White and Ms Pamela Mashiane.
