MASTERS FLYFISHING
(February 10th – 15th incl one training day and one rest day)
As with most of the World Games events, the Masters Flyfishing
anglers battled with the weather. It was fine on the practise day but
turned on Day 1, with rain and wind proving to be a challenge.
Undeterred, the anglers
fished their hearts out, to
end as follows:
Team results: Spain - first
place, USA second and Italy
third with South Africa a
close fourth.
Individual results: 1st Place:
Richard Gorlei (SA Men).
2nd Place: Jose Alverez
Tejaro (Spain) and 3rd Place:
Michael Twohig (Ireland).
Patrick O’Brien and a team
from the South African Fly-
Fishing Association organised
this leg of the World Games,
which was held in Dullstroom.
He got us up-to-speed with
events as they took place.
Fishing took place in four
sectors: Rivendell (River)
Nooitgedacht (Boat)
Dullstroom Town dam (Boat)
and the Loughs (Boat). The 42
anglers (including reserves)
were accommodated at
Dunkeld Equestrian Centre in
Dullstroom.
Two South African teams took part - one Men’s and one Ladies – and one each
from Australia, Italy, Ireland, Netherland’s, Spain and USA. They all attended the
opening ceremony in Sandton and another in Dullstroom the next day.
