CARNIVEROUS FROM BOAT FISHING (PREDATOR FISHING) (FEBRUARY 10th – 13th) This exciting event took place at Loskop Dam and the 64 anglers from 16 countries plus two reserves per team and the managers, were all accommodated at the Forever Resort Chalets. (They kindly offered special rates for the tournament). Several international teams arrived a month early to practise but the dam was closed to angling for two weeks before the competition started. They then continued to fish in dams around the area. In this category, the rules differ between those used by South Africa and Internationally. Artlure South Africa only catch one per fish specie (all species included), and according to the International rules you can catch as many as you can - per any specie/s (only predator fish species). The species targeted for this competition were Barbel, Makriel, Blue Kurper, Red Breast Kurper, Yellow Fish, Bass and Papermouth. Organiser Magriet Coetzee said the weather was good on the two practise days but it turned on the first tournament day, and there were simply no fish where one would expect to find them. Many teams blanked on catches that day. This meant a change in game plan and while Barbel is usually the most popular target - they barely featured in this event. So, the focus turned to Bass and Makriel – the latter becoming the “fish of the day”!
