slide This freshwater Feeder Fishing Championship took place at Bloemhof Dam in the Northern Free State. It was a challenging event due to the large quantity and quality of the fish species available. Most of the fish which were caught during this two-day competition (after five training days) were Carp, Grass Carp and Mudfish. According to organiser Leon Gunter, the 100 anglers from 20 countries were split into five sectors (A –E) with one angler from each country fishing against the others in the sector. In this discipline the overall weight counts, and officials walk from peg to peg where the fish are weighed every hour and then released. The winner of the sector is awarded one point (two points for 2nd place, three for 3rd etc) and all the sector points are added to make up team points. These are then totalled over the two days and the team with the least penalty points ultimately wins the Championship.
