BASS ANGLING SABAA SENIOR NATIONALS Congratulations to Western Province angler John Rhodes, for winning the 2018 SABAA Senior Nationals on the Vaal River – he earned 27.82 points over the three-day event. Mpumalanga’s Justin Karan was a close second with 27.41 points and hot on his heels in third place was Charlton Hewitt (Free State) with 27.39 points. It was a tough competition and as always, anglers needed to get their five fish a day, to be in the running. The last day presented 45km an hour winds with rain, hail and lightening… just to shake things up a bit. The 68 anglers participating caught and released a total of 791 fish. During the prize-giving, it was announced that the following anglers have been nominated to represent South Africa at the 2019 World Bass Championships, to be held on the Vaal River in February: Justy Varkevisser, Craig Fraser, Darryl Quinton, Ruan Wahl, Martin de Kock, Charlton Hewitt, and Kevin Naidoo (Reserve). Justy and Darryl were not in attendance at the prize-giving due to preparations for this year’s World Championships in Mexico. Well done guys! We know you will make us proud. Congratulations to the following anglers for their nomination for the 2019 Presidents Team. John Rhodes, Andrew Nienaber, Frans Swanepoel, Marcio Silva, Charl Engelbrecht, Kevin Naidoo, Johan Cloete, Freddie Steyn,Tinus Barnard, Jako Steyn, Robbie Olivier, Jonathan Schroder and Mzi Tyhokolo.
