Well done to Corne’ Schoeman for her PB - a huge Bass of 4.06kg caught at Loskop Dam last month! She and her husband were pre-fishing for the September leg of the E-Bass series. Corne’ says, “Due to fluctuating wind patterns, we needed to establish two different game plans for the upcoming E-Bass event. One for windy conditions, using sonar, targeting laydowns and deeper rocky contours and one pattern for when sight fishing was possible - targeting spawning Bass on nests. The wind was blowing intermittently. Using our two Lowrance units – an HDS 12 Gen 3 in front and HDS 9 Gen 2 at console - and Fishtec contour charts, together with our knowledge of the dam, we managed to target some laydowns and came across a deeper nest at about the 15ft depth range. All you could actually see was a blurry shadow in a lighter spot so it was a bit of a guessing game. This is where I managed to catch this beauty, using a Texas rigged creature bait. She was caught, photographed and immediately released to continue with her spawn.” Corne’ and her husband won the September competition with a five fish bag of 13.28kg – including another Bass of 3.4kg! You rock Corne’! Watch this passionate young Bass angler - he’ll soon be giving our Junior Proteas a run for their money.! slideshow Seven-year-old Tristan Saville, is a Grade 2 pupil at Merchiston Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg. He was fishing at Albert Falls, with seasoned anglers, Dave Thompson and Clifford Saville, when he caught these fish. The biggest was 1.8 kgs. Tristan has just bought himself a little boat (called “Shrek”) using his savings, and on his maiden voyage he managed to catch three fish at Baynesfield Dam. Hot on his Christmas wish list is a Lowrance Hook² unit - but he’s already saving up, just in case.
