FESTIVAL 2018
The brand-new 2018 Umhlanga Festival
got off to a good star t with skiboat,
jetski and paddleski anglers, families
and friends pouring into the Club for
the briefing and registration.
While still in its infancy – this new
competition has the potential to become
an annual fixture as in years gone by,
when the old Umhlanga Festival was
one of the highlights of the deepsea
fishing calendar.
After a rather difficult first day, Sarah
Gernetsky led the field with a 25.3kg
Couta and junior angler Braden Kane
(9yrs) was placed second with a Tuna
of 19.8kg. Gar th Richardson’s 19.35kg
Wahoo took third spot.

Top paddkeski angler Rowan Freese
caught a Tuna of 18.75kg (which ended
up the heaviest fish in his category, over
the weekend). According to the rules of
the competition – the top three places
had to be awarded to different species.
While our own John Minnie fished this
event, he was also available to any
angler needing assistance – as was
“Smit t y” from our spares depar tment.
They had our mobile Lowrance stand
on display in the beer tent, showing
of f some of the latest units available to
of fshore anglers.
