SUNDAYS RIVER CLASSIC 2019
(Feb 1 st – 3 rd )
Magnus Doubell caught a 106cm Sand Shark and Jude Thompson’s 99.5cm
Dusky Cob took first and second place in this popular competition – to win
R15 000 cash between them. (Both anglers are from Port Elizabeth).
Jude with his winning cob of 99.5cm
These were two of the six species caught in the Sundays River Classic 2019,
which was a great success this year. This event was extra special as it marked
the celebration of the Club’s 85th anniversary year.
A record-breaking 476 anglers took part, making this the biggest one-day
Estuary competition in the country. Anglers fished off the banks of the river,
on jetskis, kayaks and basically anything that floated - adding to the fun of
this very popular event.
Of course, prizes worth over R200k (and cash) were a huge attraction – and
competitors braved strong easterly winds and rain (on the Saturday afternoon)
to catch the biggest of 10 targeted species.
