T
he Cambridge dictionary states
that a mentor is "an experienced
and trusted person who gives
another person advice and
help.” Calling Nikki Gomez a mentor
is an understatement. Nikki Gomez
is an amazing woman, entrepreneur,
photographer, and a friend. She's helped,
advised, comforted, and most importantly
provided a listening ear to every woman
she has mentored -- touching the lives of
many, especially myself.
When I learned about the ‘Power
Issue,’ interviewing Nikki was at the top
of my list. In June 2016, Nikki Gomez
was named Full Figured Fashion Week’s
“Photographer of the Year.” This award
was beyond well-deserved. Her photos are
impeccable -- true works of art.
I remember the first photo shoot I did
with Nikki. The minute I met her, I felt
comfortable. It was like I was talking to
an old friend. She worked with me and
gave me so much advice in such a short
period. Her words gave me much needed
confidence and also expanded my views.
Nikki made me realize that my dream
of being a plus-size model was not out
of reach and encouraged me to go for
it. Because of Nikki, I have had many
blessings in this industry and I am eternally
grateful.
