MOISTERISERS

Remember your grandmother slathering on Ponds Cold Cream. Now we are putting caviar and gold on to our faces and hoping for a miracle in a jar. However it is important to understand the role of a moisturiser and most importantly it does not give your skin moisture. No really – it doesn’t!

Moisturisers are humectants, drawing and keeping moisture in, thereby giving you that soft, supple feel. My recommendation on buying a moisturiser is to look for humectants like glycerine, sorbitol, lactic acid and urea which attract and hold moisture. I love Regenerist Instant Fix Wrinkle Revolution Complex by Olay and MAC Strobe Cream – this is brilliant during the party season as it leaves a lovely glow! Ensure antioxidants are in the product ingredients list. The higher up on the ingredient list these vitamins are – the better:

Vitamin A (retinol or retin) is great for anti ageing.

Vitamin E (tocopherol) repairs the skin

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) encourages collagen production

SERUMS

Where moisturisers lock in moisture, serums treat the skin. Serums contain ingredients that fight environmental damage and are loaded with antioxidants proven to help skin. They also contain ingredients that stimulate healthy collagen production. Treating your skin to essential repairing and cell-communicating ingredients makes it look and act younger.

My favourites are Kinvara Rosehip Serum, which smells and feels amazing and Liz Arden Ceramide.

FACIALS

If you can get a GOOD facial it will set your skin right and get you looking your best!

Here are my recommendations for red carpet ready skin:

1. MICRODERMABRASION:

This is a deep exfoliation, results driven facial! Your skin will be smooth and soft with less chance of a break out – as it sucks all the bacteria away from the skin. It is also amazing for blackheads and lifeless skin! You’ll be hooked!

2. GLYCOLIC or AHA Peel:

I know, I know it sounds scary – but its actually NOT going to leave your face like that infamous scene of Samantha in SEX IN THE CITY! AHAs are sugar acid peels that deeply but gently exfoliate dead skin right off. It tingles so you feel it working, but your skin glows! Popular products are IMAGE SKINCARE, DERMALOGICA and Dr Murad.

3. A NON SURGICAL FACELIFT:

Did you know that the face has over 30 muscles? And you have to exercise muscles so they stay firm and taught! This is a machine based facial – that stimulates the facial muscles through electrical stimulation, exercising them. This helps you get rid of fine lines, tones and tightens saggy skin, therefore giving total facial rejuvenation. You will see a difference after one session, but a course is always recommended. CACI is one of the popular ones, but there are many on the market!

What is most important for good skin, is good health, happiness,

peace of mind and sleep. Also essential is a good skincare routeen!
