SAVOR THE WINES COOMBER FAMILY RANCH Skip & Maureen Coomber e: Skip @ coomber.com p: 858 - 354 - 3910 The Coomber family loves animals. They also love wine. In 2009 they started out making small batches of wine for thier own enjoyment at Terravant, a fantastic wine-making facility in Buellton, California (a city made famous by the wine movie SIDEWAYS). Other well-known Santa Ynez Valley winemakers producing at Terravant are The Hitching Post Winery, Alma Rosa, Ken Brown and Summerland, When in that area Terravant’s great restaurant and tasting room, Avant, provides the best opportunity in The Valley to taste wines from multiple wineries as its Wine Wall has 52 different Valley wines available to try, including their wines. Fortunately, their wines have been well-received and various friends (and restaurant owners) suggested that they make them available to the public. In fact, Bertrand Hug, owner of Mille Fleurs (a top 100 restaurant) and Bertrand at Mr. A’s told them that he would like to sell Coomber's wines in his restaurants. In 2009, for what seemed like months, they sat at the dining room table designing labels while sampling their wines. Where does one start? As they sat there going over ideas Murphy, their black lab, insisted on sitting under their feet while Maggie, their skateboard-riding bulldog, sat there looking up at them with a tennis ball in her mouth, imploring someone to throw the ball for her. Naturally, their three black and white cats, Cherry, Angel and Lucky, sat close to them. The decision for the subject of their labels could not have been more clear. In one sense they have made their pets immortal. More than four years since they started making wines they are now taking their wines to market. They have decided to use their wine sales to support animal welfare organizations. Coomber donates at least 5% of all revenues generated (not just of profits) to animal welfare organizations.
