A YEAR OF FUN-RAISING Providing support to the Zoo means providing support to wildlife — and providing fun and excitement to families. With tremendous support from our program sponsors — and to Ford Motor Company for sponsoring our entire BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR WILDLIFE, BRICK BY BRICK. 2018 season — we were able to offer our guests a range of unique exhibits and activities. Isn’t it great to know that the The larger-than-life wildlife sculptures of artist Sean Kenney dollars spent on all this fun and wonder will go toward caring for animals and helping to save species? descended on the Zoo in May of 2018. Kenney and his talented team of builders spent over 6,500 hours and used over 770,000 MERRY. NOT SCARY. LEGO ® bricks to create 13 works of art meant to inspire The Zoo’s legendary “World’s Largest Halloween Party,” Nature Connects ® Art with LEGO ® Bricks was presented by Ford presented by Meijer, drew 71,938 excited guests. With a magical Motor Company. realm of storybook characters, hundreds of lit jack-o-lanterns, Mumpkin the Giant Talking Pumpkin, and so much more, the event was, as always, a true community celebration bringing together generations of families and children for hours of delight — not fright! guests to learn more about the plight of endangered wildlife. PARTY ON, EARTH. Because one day just isn’t enough to celebrate the wonder of Mother Earth — and the need to protect her — the Zoo threw a month-long Party for the Planet, presented by LG&E and KU. The month featured an array of activities and displays, sales of mulch and compost, and much more to get guests living greener. ALL AFLUTTER. Spring’s magically colorful Butterflies n’ Bloom exhibit and Flutter Fest provided an opportunity for guests to get involved in conservation as they learned about ways to support monarch butterfly migration and set up pollinator zones. Come October, the butterfly house was transformed into a creepy-crawly — but not so itsy-bitsy — spider environment, just in time for our huge Halloween celebration. BREWING UP FUN — AND FUNDS. Nearly 4,200 community members gathered for Zoofari, presented by Brown-Forman, and Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too, presented by Rhinegeist Brewing and Liquor Barn. Most importantly, these popular annual events raised funds to benefit exhibit habitat developments, animal care, species conservation, education, and to help execute special capital projects like replacing the doors in COMING THROO FOR THE ZOO the HerpAquarium. The Zoo celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Throo the Zoo event, presented by Norton Audubon Hospital, with a record 2,600 walkers and runners in the wildest 5K in town — and a record amount of funds raised.
