ALLIANCE NEWS GLMS Alliance NEWS Debi McDonald, President - [email protected] The GLMS Alliance exists to promote support among physician families and better the health and wellness of our community through supporting local charities. Together we live a life unique to the challenges and rewards of being a physician family. If you are a physician or the spouse/child/parent of a physician, please JOIN US! For more information, visit the Alliance link on the GLMS.org website. T he GLMS Alliance completed its first medical mission to Whisper Children’s Hospital in Jinja, Uganda in March. We hand delivered Supplies Over Seas medical supplies and assisted Healing the Children in screening and preparing Visa applications, and sponsored letters for children to come to Norton Children’s Hospital for surgery not available in their country. We accompanied Whisper’s Outreach team into the surrounding villages to screen and treat Jiggers, a parasite flea. Members of our team from Galen Center for Professional Development conducted 8 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE training for Whisper’s staff and have committed to ongoing sup- port for medical and leadership training. We also visited a church, primary school, government hospital, HIV treatment facility and took a boat ride on the Nile to the source of the Nile, Lake Victoria! The trip was exciting, long and busy! We all gained just as much as we gave. The next team, including doctors, nurses and lay persons will take place in June 2019. Everyone has something to give and to learn. Join us!
