EVENTS LEADERS MEET FACE TO FACE at GLMS Legislative Reception O n January 17 th , GLMS hosted physicians, legislators and metro council members at Rabbit Hole Distillery for the 2019 Legislative Reception. This event was a unique opportunity for Louisville leaders in health care to speak face to face with lawmakers in a casual setting. Among this year’s guests were Attorney General Andy Beshear, State Representatives Attica Scott, Charles Booker, Kim Moser, Maria Sorolis and Nima Kulkarni, Senator Gerald Neal, KMA President Dr. Bruce Scott, GLMS President Dr. Wayne Tuckson and dozens of others. Chair of the GLMS Policy and Advocacy Team, Dr. Rishi Kumar spoke briefly to those in attendance saying, “I believe that everyone in this room feels strongly about getting things right in this state. We have to do better. We at GLMS believe there are several bills which have been introduced in this year’s session that address Kentucky’s 6 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE health issues.” The priorities which GLMS and KMA are advocating for this year include: prior authorization, out-of-network billing, tobacco-free schools and tort reform. There is currently physician-backed leg- islation related to each of these important issues in the Kentucky Congress. To find and contact your legislator, visit www.lrc.ky.gov. The 2019 Legislative Reception was presented in partnership with the GLMS Foundation. GLMS continued its advocacy mission in Frankfort at the 2019 KMA Physicians’ Day at the Capitol event on February 21.
