were doubts expressed, in spite of the General’s insistence that the wedding would happen soon. On November 6, 1936, Verna Taylor and Henry Denhart traveled to Louisville, to attend to her business, meet with associates and have dinner. She phoned her daughter to excuse herself from chaperoning a dance in LaGrange that evening, claiming a headache. Instead of coming home, she and Denhart ended up driving to Henry Coun- ty, where they had car trouble and sought assistance. The car was parked in a local farmer’s driveway while they waited for the repairs that were needed, and from which Verna Taylor, allegedly walked unobserved down the dark highway to her death. The reconstruction of events, profiles of the legal teams assem- bled and a comprehensive review of the body of evidence, legal proceedings, media manipulation, and interviews with family and residents on both sides paints a compelling picture. The author also presents her impressions from her research about the events, and attempts a few theories for the lingering unanswered questions. I recommend the book for its comprehensive account of events and a glimpse into the not-so-recent history of Kentucky. Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program This toolkit has been created by the LMPHW Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program with the goal of equipping area providers with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively screen Jefferson County children for lead poisoning and to collaboratively follow through with any subsequent care. \This toolkit’s intended audience is primary care providers and is designed with two primary compo- nents. The first component is designed to equip all area providers with lead specific guidance concern- ing identification of patients, determining when to screen, and follow-up actions for monitoring blood lead levels. \The second component provides this guidance in easy to use tools to be utilized during an exam and educational material for parents or guardians to prevent lead exposure and how to reduce blood lead levels. Utilization of this toolkit will create a cohesive understanding of childhood lead poisoning, screening, monitoring, and prevention for primary care providers in the Louisville Metro area. https://louisvilleky.gov/government/health-wellness/childhood-lead-poisoning-prevention JULY 2017 11
