GLMS FOUNDATION ASSISTS IN MEDICAL MISSIONS Denise Puthuff, MD T he GLMS Foundation, with the support of Kosair Charities and Kosair Children's Hospital, was able to provide the opportunity for two medical residents to join a group of more than a dozen medical volunteers to bring much needed medical care to Managua, Nicaragua. The annual January trip is sponsored by the GLMS Foundation in partnership with Hand in Hand Ministries, a Louisville nonprofit that operates the Pathway to Change program for the poor in Nicaragua. This trip comes as part of the Foundation's Medical Missions Initiative. The week is packed with visits to hospitals and clinics, with sharing of medical supplies and equipment. During this annual trip, our physicians also provide educational materials and instruction to Nicaraguan residents and medical staff. After reading the articles 14 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE by the residents, we hope you will consider our upcoming January 2017 trip. An informational meeting will be held at the Old Medical School Building in August. With the many demands on our physicians today, your schedule may not allow for a week away for a mission. However, there are many local and regional opportunities also available if you would consider volunteering a few hours each month. Together we can provide much needed health care to the underserved of our communities! Please call the Foundation office at 502-736-6356 or email [email protected] for more information. Denise Puthuff, MD, practices dermatology with Brownsboro Dermatology, PLLC, and serves the GLMS Foundation as Medical Missions Committee Chair.
