IN REMEMBRANCE FERRELL LOWERY, MD 1929-2015 F errell C. Lowrey, Jr., MD, graduated from Male High School, the University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences, and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and in 1956 served as the medical officer assigned to “Operation Red Wing,” the last aboveground testing of atomic and hydrogen weapons. He completed a residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville and subsequently practiced cardiology until his retirement in 1996. During his working career, Dr. Lowrey served on numerous hospital committees and was a physician advisor to Humana Hospital Suburban in the areas of utilization review, quality assurance, and risk management. He served in leadership positions for the Suburban Medical Staff and was a member of the American College of Physicians. In retirement, he continued his active participation in the medical community by serving as a member of the Board of Directors for Kosair Charities, where he reviewed cases and acted as an advocate for children in need of the medical services provided by that organization.
