IN REMEMBRANCE LESLEY CAMPBELL, MD 1972-2015 L esley LaShawn Campbell, MD, 43, my beloved wife, passed away on June 1, 2015. After completing her undergraduate work at the University of Louisville, she attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Minnesota. She returned home to U of L to complete her fellowship in Gastroenterology. She had practiced GI medicine here in Louisville for the past 10 years, with a long partnership with Dr. Jeff Tuvlin at KentuckyOne Health Gastroenterology Associates. Her interest in this specialty was clearly spurred by her own lifelong battle with Crohn’s Disease, for which she endured many surgeries and hospitalizations. Her ability to achieve professional success in spite of this remains a tribute to her strength and dedication. Lesley was an incredibly detail-oriented and diligent physician who was cherished by her patients. Many sent letters and cards detailing how Dr. Campbell had changed their lives. The outpouring of condolences from her professional colleagues past and present has been astounding. These have included her medical school classmates, fellowship faculty and peers, as well as the many professional colleagues she had in the community. Additionally, she was well known to be a champion for the support staff in the office and hospital, 10 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE who shared her drive for providing excellent care. Beyond her professional life, Lesley was my incomparable wife of 12 years and an adoring mother to our 7-year-old daughter. She brought the same passion to her home and family that she did to her work. While we are so saddened by our loss, it is gratifying to see how well-loved and respected she was by her professional community. It is apparent that she touched so many lives. Her smile, laughter, and commitment will be deeply missed. Thank you to everyone in the Louisville medical community for the countless messages of condolence and support in this difficult time. It will long be appreciated and remembered. - Jonathan Becker, MD Program Director, Family Medicine Residency University of Louisville
