FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS BLOSSOMING ON BROADWAY Aaron Burch L ouisville’s Family Health Center (FHC) is moving its East Broadway location just down the road to a building triple the size, and will have opportunities to serve thousands of new patients in 2015 and beyond. FHCs have long provided access to high quality primary and preventive care services in Jefferson County, regardless of the patient’s insurance or ability to pay. In 2013 alone, FHC served almost 38,000 patients from every demographic and across seven Louisville locations. The new East Broadway FHC expansion, projected to open in February 2015, will provide coverage to Louisville’s downtown and surrounding east side neighborhoods. The center will be the big brother to several smaller locations and counterpoint to the thriving FHC center in the West End. 26 LOUISVILLE MEDICINE “We’re really at a pivotal location here on East Broadway,” said Bill Wagner, FHC Executive Director. “The Highlands are nearby, Butchertown, Crescent Hill, Smoketown, Germantown and the new building is along a bus route. What we want to do is intercept people who need primary care and focus on prevention before they get to the emergency room. We want to keep people healthy and
