Kentucky health care providers, a short legislative session was also
one of the most productive in recent years.
Throughout the efforts of GLMS in Frankfort, the organization
worked closely with the Kentucky Medical Association for the betterment of Kentucky health care profession practices. “It was a very
good session because we didn’t play defense. We were on offense.
We were proactive, not reactive, and that makes all the difference,”
said Cory Meadows, KMA Director of Advocacy & Legal Affairs,
congratulating the GLMS P&A Team on their efforts. During the
KMA Annual Meeting held in September 2014, the groups had
coordinated plans. GLMS submitted several resolutions adopted
by the KMA House of Delegates for improving state-wide health,
as follows:
•
Commendation and KMA promotion of Supplies Over Seas.
•
Rejection of required Maintenance of Licensure/Maintenance
of Certification programs until further studies show positive
impact.
•
Advocacy of Kentucky legislation to define expert witness
qualifications and consider reform legislation.
•
Increased access to medication-assisted treatment with
multi-modality treatment for opioid addiction.
•
Promotion of medical student engagement in organized medicine on Kentucky medical school campuses.
•
Promotion of resident and fellow engagement in organized
medicine on Kentucky medical school campuses.

In addition, several GLMS members were elected to leadership
positions within KMA for the coming year. Bruce Scott, MD,
was nominated and elected to the position of KMA Speaker of
the House for 2014-2015. Linda Gleis, MD, was elected as KMA
Secretary/Treasurer. Randy Schrodt Jr., MD, was selected to the
KMA Board of Trustees. David Watkins, MD, was named as an
alternate trustee. David Bybee, MD, was named as the chair of the
2015 KMA nominating committee.
All these events and activities have made the last year one of
GLMS’s most successful. We hope you’ll join us for the year’s final
event taking place at the Muhammad Ali Center on May 31. The
annual President’s Celebration, which celebrates GLMS presidents
of the past, present and future, will welcome our incoming president
Dr. Robert Couch. Together with our other physician leaders, Dr.
Couch will help guide the Louisville medical community through
another exciting year.
Thank you so much to the physicians that make our work possible.
GLMS will continue to evolve and serve you to the best of our abilities, but your passion and commitment to bettering the Louisville
community make being your staff a great honor and privilege.
