A
contest
of
height
and
white
blocks
the
downhill
view
of
the
creek.
They
compete
for
attention.
The
twenty
foot
high
snowball
Hydrangea
cascades
its
white
so
thick
branches
sag.
Overflows
of
cotton
soccer
balls
freeze
their
downward
plunge
and
do
not
plunge.
Beside
it,
just
as
tall,
the
Japanese
Viburnum
layers
its
shelves
of
white
against
shelves
of
fresh
lime
leaves.
Shoulder
to
shoulder
they
grab
the
burst
of
sunrise
sun
and
glow.
Work-‐bound
cars
halt
to
gawk.
They
aah
and
ooh.
The
trees
nudge
each
other
and
whisper,
Just
see
what
we’ve
gone
and
done.
