How important is it to focus on the details of single APRIL 2015 produce
MARCH / images to
quality material?
Do you have any advice for people looking to start a career in fashion photography?
Yea and its very simple. Learn your
camera. Practice, practice and practice some more. Foremost shadow work
or photographers that inspire you. Not
to copy and post the same works but to
learn the processes. When re-creating
anothers work you can find your own
way. You’ll start to feel out how you
would do it like and direct thing’s
your way to make the same shot or propel it to the next level. Be humble and
know there will always be someone better, yet there is no one like you.
What would be your dream location and
setting for a photo shoot?
Ok, so it would depend on what style of
shoot because I shoot glamour as well.
If it was fashion, Drop me somewhere
in Europe’s countries citiy streets or
lush garden. I’ve also always have had
the desire to shoot in Tibet or an East
Asian country in temple ruins or in
their mountain areas, so beautiful. If
glamour, somewhere like the Mal Dives
Islands. I’m very much sure shots can
defiantly be achieved in just about any
beach, city or green wooded area but
what can I say. When I dream, I don’t
worry about limitations.
THE INTERVIEW
I was born detail oriented. And when it comes to a passion of mine, such
as photography, the details are what drive me to the finished product. The little things are what make the larger picture. Me and my team
brainstorm plan and try to execute everything possible to the T. I love
the fact that we are so like minded in the way that all we care about is
how great the end product will be viewed as we take care of each objective to create great works of art.
What made you want to become a photographer?
At first, I used to hate photography. But thanks to my rib, the love of
my life, my fiancé, Jashelle Henry encouraged me to try photography.
I’m a graphic artist generally, started from drawing and sketching. Few
years into the relationship, she was modeling in publications such as
Blackmens and doing independent gigs. As to help promote her I would do
her graphics and then she asked if I could take photos of her since I
could edit fairly well at the time. That’s how it all started.
What do you focus on mostly?
This could be answered in my mind in so many different ways. But what
I truly focus on overall is my ability to be able to shoot great shots
that will gain me recognition to be able to establish myself on the commercial stage. From the equipment that I use, to the personnel that I
associate with, I try to submerge myself in my craft.
Have you had any formal training in this and if so where?
No. I learned from user manuals, blogs, behind the scenes footage from
other incredible photographers and from the best teacher anyone can
learn from “mistakes”. I’d try, try, try and try again until I learned
each aspect of the camera and how it worked. When you know the camera,
you control the picture.
What do you think photographers in general focus on too much?
LOL. To be honest everyone over compensates on something. We are all
learning, even the best of the best if they are humble will tell you
there is always something to learn. I don’t dive too much into this subject because some become offended as if you’re judging their work ethic
or skill set. I’ll leave it at this. If photographers didn’t get to meet
and mingle with gorgeous women, celebrities, athletes or persons of importance, would you still call yourself a photographer. Could you look
yourself in the mirror and say I love what I do… I believe very quickly,
they’ll be a lot less photographers in the world that call themselves
professionals. My two scents.
