Makeup Artist of the year Interview
LOS ANGELES FIRM INC MAGAZINE
JULY / AUG 2014
Hello Bernice How are you? How is this
industry treating you?
I’m really well.! This Industry is treating me
well. I’ve just come out of a bumper season
during our spring summer period.. We are
now into winter and its given me a chance to
take a breath and rejuvenate my creative side.
We are glad to have you featured and
very excited for makeup geeks worldwide. So tell all of the makeup artist
out there what your secret is?
How do you create such magical art? I honestly dont think there is a big secret to makeup.! I think it is one profession where you get
the opportunity to show your creative side
and just play! Makeup is not permanent so
why not try everything? If something doesnt
work, take it off and start again! It was only
yesterday that I was going over some of my
very first photoshoots.. Wow.. I’ve grown so
much. It has definitely come down to working
with some amazing people and just practice
practice practice.! I love collecting makeup
references. I have a full bookshelf of some
amazing magazines from across the world. I
collect them, and never tire of going back and
seeing what has inspired me over the years
What is your favorite and most used
makeup product?
I would have to say that my most favourite
product is my foundation. I use Cinema Secrets which is a silicome based cake foundation. That along with my beautyblender
and I get heaven on every persons face.
How does it feel each time you transform
someone into a totally different look?
I truly love being able to completely transform somebody.! To hear a reaction from
a bride who has just seen her finished look
for the first time, to being able to see my
work on a model from a photoshoot. Nothing is more satisfying that pushing the
boundaries on makeup and hair looks.
How many pieces are in your makeup
kit?
hahaha... Lets not go there shall we.? I am
a hoarder! I love makeup on so many levels.! And that constantly reflects in my kit..
Who did you look up to when you first
started or even to this day?
I really really admire an American artist called
Lottie.. She truly epitomises where I would love
to see my work be. She’s inspirational, very
sweet to communicate with, and always has the
most flawless looks on models.. Truly a gorgeous artist.. Then there is Ro Shar.. Talk about
an artist who knows how to push boundaries of
colour like you wouldnt believe.! He truly is
a creative artist and has a personality to boot.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at IMATS
LA a couple of years ago.. Was an honour..
What inspires you to carry on as an
artist?
I think its really important to have a balance
in what you do. I have always been an artist
and have loved abstract and surrealism art.
I do alot of commercial and bridal work that
can be sometimes quite bland with their looks
as you are selling a product. So to balance that
out I really enjoy working with fellow creatives to make some beautiful creative work.
Nothing is more satisfying than working with
a creative team and having an amazing outcome like what you chose for your front cover..
Who’s your favorite model?
What would you say is the highlight of

my work honored based on my first creative
look back feels
