Pokemon

Quilava: HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL POKEMON TRAINERS, COORDINATORS, BREEDERS, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU MAY BE! QUILAVA THE FLAMETHROWER HERE!!! DO YOU REMEMBER FEBRUARY 27TH, 2016?!!! YOU SHOULD!! BECAUSE THAT WAS THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF POKEMON!!! TWENTY YEARS OF POKEMON AND AWESOMENESS!!! YEAH!!!!! LET’S HAVE A PARTY!!!

Today I have some of my friends from here at the fandom magazine!!! Introducing…..Luke Goldscar!

Quilava: Hello, Luke!

Luke: Hello, Quilava! This is Luke Goldscar here, I have been playing Pokemon ever since I was 8, and I am really happy to celebrate the twenty year anniversary, especially now that Pokemon Sun and Moon is confirmed and there are new events!

Quilava: And Julie Jones!

Julie: Hey Quilava! So, I’m not a huge Pokemon fan but my friends are. Now I know a couple Pokemon and have played Pokemon Showdown online, which is fun! I heard that there are new things that I heard are coming in, which is cool!

Luke: So today we’re talking about what we love about Pokemon. And one question is.... What is your favorite game? Mine is Sapphire or Platinum, what about you, Quilava?

Quilava: Ummm...obviously the Johto Games! I’ve only played Pokemon Yellow, Red, Blue, Gold, Silver, and some of Ruby! Pokemon Gold has a special place in my heart, because it’s the first I ever played, and, as you can see, Cyndaquil was my first ever Pokemon!

Julie: My first ever Pokemon was Empoleon. I just so excited to have him!

Luke: That is cool! Today we are going to be talking about the top 10 things we love about Pokemon! We had to narrow it down to 10 because there are SO many things. This was heavily inspired by other top 10 videos and lists!

Quilava: Let’s get started! We asked some of you to submit why you love Pokemon on Google+, and we ranked them based on how much we agree!

10. Submitted by +Jason Soderholm. He said, quote, “CHILDHOOD”. I mean, not exactly the most descriptive one I’ve gotten, but it definitely works! Nostalgia here. I mean, many of us have grown up playing the Pokemon games and/or watching the Pokemon anime. Personally, I remember pretending to be a Pokemon trainer in the park, or waking up in the mornings (usually weekends) to watch the anime and cheer Ash and Pikachu and his friends on as they battled. I was always excited to receive or buy Pokemon merchandise at Target!

9. From +Blade the Leafeon (By the way, nice name, Blade!)

“Being the very best

like no one ever was

cuz catching them is your real test

training them is your cause

cuz you travel across the land

searching, far and wide

teaching Pokemon to understand

The power that’s insiiiiiide”

Wow! Nice reference to the original anime theme song, Blade. Nostalgia here too. Anyways, the challenge of catching all 150 Pokemon and training them to their maximum level (100) to evolve them is a big part of the games! And you all remember that as long as it may have taken you, you were mentally transported to Pallet Town or New Bark Town or any other place in the games, and you love it. Escaping reality is great sometimes, isn’t it? Although it took you FOREVER to get around until you got your bike. Hahaha.

“Lots of different creatures to catch, collect and train. There are no same pokemon, and everyone can find pokemon that they will like.”

Hmm. That’s definitely something I love. There are so many varieties of Pokemon, in, let’s say, the water types alone. Or any other type. Don’t like Poliwag? Relax! Just wait until Friday, and you can catch Lapras, a great ice type that can use water type moves. And if you don’t like Poliwag, you can catch Seel or Dewgong later, if you’re preferring a cuter or squishier-looking Pokemon.

7. Or +Max “ToTheMax” Marsh’s entry:

“The ability to be versatile in how you play and what Pokemon you catch!”

Kind of the same concept, but yeah, that’s completely true. For instance, you can have a variety of types on your team, or you can stick to, say, all fire! Or you can just catch pokemon you like, or catch ‘em all!

6. Let’s hear was +Da Green Garchomp has to say!

“If I had to pick one, my favorite thing is probably how you can create a strong bond with your favorite Pokemon in game and irl!! Thinking about raising a Pokemon at level 1 and watching it grow to level 100 is just so satisfying.”

I feel you. I loved my first Cyndaquil from day one. I still remember him to this day! His name was simply Cyndaquil, and of course I was new to the game so I didn’t know the concept of raising your Pokemon altogether equally(DON’T JUDGE! I’M SURE YOU’VE HAD A CRAZY POWERFUL STARTER BEfoRE!!), so I beat the entire Pokemon Gold(Johto and Kanto)with just Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion. My second time playing it I had another male Cyndaquil who I named Obsidian. Now, I had as strong of a bond with Obsidian as I did with my first Cyndaquil, maybe even more because of that awesome nickname. I breeded him with other Pokemon and he had a few baby Cyndaquils- A son named Pumice, a son named Marble, a son named Marvel, and a daughter named Quartz. Um...er, is it just me, or do you see the resemblance too?

5. From +Ewan Beattie- “The rivalry, and striving to beat your rival both in game and irl.”

I remember after figuring out that your rival always battled with you when you were leaving Cherrygrove City to go back home in the beginning of Pokemon Gold, I would grind so that my starter Pokemon(almost always Cyndaquil) was at least level 10. DIE, TOTODILE!!!

4. And this one, from +Pichu Liones- “The different types of gym leaders and how they look!”

Right. I still can’t get over the fact that Brock runs a rock-type gym, Misty runs a water-type gym, and Falkner runs a flying-type gym. -_- I can’t wait for a fairy-type gym. What will their name be? Tooth? Tinker Bell? A beautiful maiden named Fairy, the fair(y)est of them all?

3. And one from our very own +Trini Ashheart (hi Trini!!)

“Longetivity :p”

Not sure what you mean by that. Oh, wait. Of course I do! Pokemon will last in our hearts forever. It’s been loved by our generation, the one before us, and the coming generations after.

2. Here’s one I always think of-the creativity.I mean, what other game has a creature based on an ice cream cone, or the Los Angeles and New York smog? And have you ever noticed that the Kanto game towns are colors? Think about it-you start in Pallet Town(a pallet is something used to hold paint), then you go to Pewter City(a shade of grey), and Cerulean City(A shade of blue), and Lavendar Town(a shade of purple), and the Indigo Plateau. And remember New Bark Town down in Johto? Then Cherrygrove(obviously a type of tree-cherry)and Cianwood City(again, a type of tree), and Goldenrod. Did that just blow your mind?

Teaching you morals. Like, yeah. You battle with these creatures. But what’s one of the main points of the game? Being kind to these Pokemon. You get your first Pokemon in Johto because Professor Elm sees you as a kind trainer who will be good to their Pokemon. Your rival can’t win battles because they treat their Pokemon with no respect or love. Your Pokemon can’t win contests unless you nourish them with Pokeblocks, or basically treats to show appreciation for them. A Pokemon will not obey you if you don’t care about them and keep letting them faint in battle, wounding both their physical health and their pride. And it’s the same with the anime, too.

So that’s the top ten reasons why we love Pokemon! Send us your favorite thing about Pokemon by submitting a form through our website, or by contacting me on Google+ as +🔥Quilava the Flamethrower🔥. Thanks for reading, and Pokepeace out!
