The Force Awakens has inspired lots of new ships in two hours. These include Stormpilot, Kylux, Jedistorm, and my personal favorite, Reylo.

Reylo is the ship name for Kylo Ren and Rey. This ship gets a surprising and saddening amount of hate (probably more than Perachel/Pernico from PJO). People hate Reylo because of the age difference, and thinking Kylo Ren was abusing Rey. There are other reasons as well, but these people simply aren't thinking things through.

First of all, the age difference. It shouldn't matter. They're both old enough, and only possibly about 10 or so years apart. My parents are 8 years apart. The age difference doesn't matter. Love overcomes all. Besides, both Rey and Kylo Ren are over 18. They're both adults and can make their own decisions.

Second of all, people call Reylo incest. Let me remind you that it has not yet been confirmed who Rey is the child of. Remember Clace (The Mortal Instruments)? Remember when people shipped Luke and Leia? It is, in my opinion, not likely that they are related. Han would have recognized her name. And why would she think her possible uncle/father was a myth?

And now on to the reasons to ship it. First of all, Kylo Ren was a lot more gentle with Rey than with Poe ahem bridal carry ahem. people say in the interrogation scene he was abusing Rey, but Rey was fighting back. Honestly, she probably hurt him more than he might have.

Rey is also the first person in the movie to see the human side of Kylo Ren. She sees his fear first. Though that was an accident, it was no accident that Kylo Ren took off his helmet. He willingly showed Rey his humanity. That he wasn't just a “creature in a mask.”

Kylo Ren’s main goal is to finish what Vader started. Anakin turned to the Dark Side to save Padme. If Kylo Ren achieves his goal, that would mean he turns to the Light Side to save Rey (whether this means she dies, I’d rather not think about).

Reylo is just another perfectly valid ship that deserves to not be hated. Reylo shippers have perfectly valid reasons for their ship, and those reasons can be backed up with canon evidence. So, this Valentine’s Day, let the Reylo shipping continue freely!
