Israeli Company Produces Water From Thin Air

Israeli technology has already produced a broad range of cutting-edge solutions to many of the problems that our world is facing. Heck, they even invented the cherry tomato. And as California finds itself in the midst of a historic drought, the work being done at Water-Gen, an Israeli company recognized in 2014 by Fast Company as one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the world, is especially interesting. Water-Gen has developed an atmospheric water generator – a device that produces gallons of cold drinking water out of thin air.

The atmospheric water generator extracts humidity from the air. An air filter removes all the dust and dirt particles while the cooling mechanism turns the humidity to condensation, which is collected. The system, which can be carried in a backpack, produces 5 to 20 gallons of drinking water per day.

Water-Gen's device is currently being used by the Israeli military, but the next step – adapting this remarkable technology for civilian applications – is already underway.
