Two hundred windows encircle the room, stretching from floor to ceiling, each having been specially engineered so that bright sunlight never overwhelms the room during the day while the evening views, ranging from the San Gabriel mountains to the ocean, never cease to impress.

But make no mistake, 71Above is not simply a restaurant with a great view. Consider it, instead, a great restaurant with an equally impressive view. Chef Vartan Abgaryan has assembled a menu that can best be described as upscale and modern, with just enough familiar touches to make every diner feel comfortable.

As a first course, the tomato tart features heirloom tomato, locally produced burrata, syrupy rich 25-year old balsamic, basil, and parmesan. It is the definition of balance and flavorful perfection. Sunchoke soup is served with crème fraiche, sweet garlic, smoked trout roe, and dill. And having the soup poured tableside into the waiting bowl already filled with the accompanying ingredients is a further reminder that even your soup is assured of its special moment at 71Above.
