Interviewed By Sapphire Hill In a world where "thin was in" Brandee managed to make a name for herself in all her BBW glory. Beauty, brains and talent combine in this Plus sized beauty with oversized talents to match. Based in Ohio, Brandee Baboski is a model, fashion designer and more. 1.) You're a 'Jill of all trades' as they would say. You're much more than a model, can you tell us about the other things you do? I am a model manager, I am a fashion designer/ seamstress and I am an animal lover lol. You name it, I do it. 2.) As a BBW model, did you find it hard to break into the business? Yes, It's harder to break into the "urban" or eye candy type industry, because most magazines do not publish plus or bbw models. As far as runway it's not as hard being plus as it is being shorter. But I work on my walk, my poses and my portfolio so that being shorter or bigger than the standards doesn't hinder my talent. 3.) You've been featured in quite a few magazines lately, most rescently Stunnaz. How did that opportunity come about? I have been doing research on the modeling industry and "urban" industry for a while. Im like how do I get in these magazines. I know that I don't look like the average vixen, but I feel that I bring something different to the game. I got in contact with the editor and sent in my photos for consideration. He booked my shoot and now I'm in. Sometimes things aren't that easy. Because I'm not the standard, my hair, makeup, styling and photos have to be amazing. 4.) You manage a group of models called The Socialites, tell us more about them and your company. The Socialites are a coed traveling model group that I and Ms. Socialite started earlier this year. She is one of my top models. We do brand ambassador work, product demos, print and runway modeling. We also do appearances and event hosting. It's more than just a modeling group. It's like family. We try to take a monthly trip or we all try to have a small get together. 5.) How long have you been a clothing designer? What piqued your interest in clothes and fashion? I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and designing since I was 11. I've always liked a different style of clothes. I always dressed "out of the box". I started out designing Barbie doll clothes and wanted to make clothes for my friends. So I used to tie dye, bleach and cut up me and my friends clothes so that we could be different. 6.) You have your hand in so many pots, if you had to focus on just one, what direction do you think your passion would pull you? If I could design and sew full time that would be my ultimate dream. Sewing not only helps as an added income but for me it is euphoria. When I am stressed out I get on that sewing machine and create something. I can sit at that thing for hours and it not feel like work. 7.) What changes have you seen in the modeling game from the time you started until now? The whole modeling industry has changed. More African American models in major runway shows, more plus size, alternative and even transgender models are not only in shows, but on tv, major magazines and used in ads. Plus modeling has also changed quite a bit. 8.) Where can people see more of you? You can check me out on snapchat/ ig @baboski0499 I update my fashions, upcoming events and new projects.
