ON OUR RADAR RADIO MILANO POURS IT ON NEW SOMMELIER GOES ROGUE Welcome, Joshua Theis, the new Certified Sommelier at Radio Milano at the Hotel Sorella in CityCentre. At 27, the Catalan-raised Theis has designed his wine list to steer away from the major labels guests can easily find pretty much everywhere. He seeks out wines and winemakers who believe in blending both Old and New World styles and truly try to show the terroir of their region through their wines. His main focus is Italy of course, but the major regions that hold his heart are Germany and Slovenia. Theis’ formal wine education began with local men- tors like Master Sommeliers Guy Stout and David Keck, who were instrumental in encouraging him to enter into the Court of Master Sommeliers program in 2014. The following year, he completed the examination and became a Certified Sommelier. Currently, Theis is studying for his Advanced Level Certification which he will take in November 2017. PARK IT HERE NEW APP SIMPLIFIES YOUR DRIVE TIME The City of Houston and Parkmobile, LLC have partnered to launch a custom parking app for mobile payments called ParkHouston. The application allows parkers to use their mobile devices to pay for parking at the 9,200 metered, on-street parking spaces throughout the city. Customers using the ParkHouston app can pay for parking with their smartphones using a free mobile application available for iPhone and Android. “We want parking in Houston to be as easy as possible,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “The ParkHouston app lets Houstonians park, pay and be on their way with the touch of a button. ParkHouston offers a customized experience for Houstonians, but still allows visitors to benefit from the nationwide Parkmobile network.” 16 L O C A L | september 17
