COMMUNITY COMING ON STRONG THE ART OF REBUILDING COMMUNITY ESPERSON GALLERY at GreenStreet (1201 Fannin St.) is taking the lead in supporting the local creative economy after the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. On October 5, the group exhibit “The Strong Show” opens with a party at the gallery, kicking off a month of keeping the local community engaged with Houston craftswomen and men, artisans and musicians who need and deserve some local exposure (and sales!) in the wake of the storm. There’s also a retail component: “The Strong Store” is a retail storefront situated in the gallery space that will also activate in October. “It is our borne-out-of-Harvey shop that will feature art, design and HOU-centric goods. We’ll have art+design+craft pieces intended to be available for all budgets,” says gallery director Tammy Greene Dowe. Visitors can expect pieces crafted to reflect the #HoustonStrong vibe, like musician Geoffrey Muller’s “Complete the Row“ micro Texas-y cross-stitch pieces (think Whataburger ® logo), Elizabeth Purpich Collection’s Tambourine Bag (fresh off the NYFW runway) and #HoustonStrong works from gallery artists. Come on out and support Houston’s creative economy if you are able. For more information, visit www.espersongallery.com. Photography provided by Esperson Gallery 42 L O C A L | 10 . 2017
