EVENT: OMEGA SPEEDMASTER CELEBRATION
WHERE: SUGAR LAND AIRPORT
It doesn’t get much cooler than dining on the moon. That is
exactly what OMEGA Watches recreated in celebration of
the 45th anniversary of the Apollo13 mission on Tuesday,
May 12, at a local airplane hangar. Neil Armstrong wore
an OMEGA Speedmaster when he landed on the moon and
seeing that it was the first watch on the moon, it only made
sense for OMEGA to collaborate with NASA on a local level
for a spectacular event unlike anything seen in Houston.
Brand ambassador George Clooney was on hand, as were
astronauts Jim Lovell, Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan. With
a guest list of 300, of which only 35 were from Houston, the
black tie seated dinner took guests to the moon to dine.
Parisian event planners, Bureau Batek, did a stellar job recreating the moon in an airplane hangar: from the rocky floors
with boulders to the backlit black walls with twinkling lights
and Star Wars-like tunnels and doors leading into the dining
area. Local event planners, A Fare Extraordinaire, took care
of the space-inspired fare and cocktails including spiked
Tang®. A bevy of the elite on the social list made the cut as
the local guests, but it was the astronauts who stole the show,
even from Clooney himself.
