I
I’ve always kind of floated
through life with doors opening
for me and things just working
out the way I want them to.
Sometimes, however, when that other
door opens, it may not be the one I
thought I wanted, but it was the one
I needed. The first six months of
2015 have thrown so much at me and taught me even more. I’ve learned two children
are much harder than one. That women take on way more than we need to, while I’ve
also learned to ask for help. I’ve learned we have a way of complicating our lives
rather than just accepting what we are capable of and being happy with the fact that
we are walking miracles. I’ve learned not to take my health, energy, happiness, fighting spirit or outlook on life for granted.
Shot on location at 322 Tynebrook Lane, the
cover screams summer fun – which is what we
had while we blew up 26 pool floats. Cover
girl/local model Lesli Pendergraft (mother of
four, by the way) for Page Parkes Models has
been in the business since she was 17. The set
was light and happy as a generator pumped
away, filling float after float while Lesli was
transformed into a Bond girl with hair and
makeup by artist Sherri Evett. Cody Bess created the perfect dramatic light, while Marzifat
killed it with the styling. Shoes by Sophia

I’ve learned I love our new look and format here at LOCAL so much! And that this
city has so much more to offer and that even in 17+ years we do not run out of content.
On that note, this is our Hot Issue because, duh, it’s hot in Houston. We’ve rounded
up some people, places and things that we think are hot, cool, different, amazing, glorious, rad – whatever your word du jour is.
This month we are also launching a new feature called Icons. That’s a big word; luckily
we happen to have a ton of big local icons in the city. Every month we will bring you
someone over 75 who has made an indelible mark on our city. We are launching it
this month with MARTHA FULLER TURNER who coincidentally (or not) is celebrating an iconic
birthday this month. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
There’s always something unexpected happening in town – for example, check out our
post-event coverage of OMEGA Watches’ dinner in honor of the 45th anniversary of
Apollo 13 with over 200 guests flow in from out of town, including George Clooney.
And did you know a store unlike anything you’ve seen is building itself a gorg new
glass box right in the paid parking across from The Cheesecake Factory in The
Galleria?
