THE OTHER SIDE: CHINESE AND MEXICAN IMMIGRATION TO AMERICA Asia Society 1370 Southmore Houston, TX 77004 explores recurring issues of immigration, border relations and labor practices through the works of six contemporary artists: Andrea Bowers, Margarita Cabrera, Tony de los Reyes, Bland de St. Croix, Zhi Lin and Huang Liu. From Andrea Bowers’ drawing series, NO OLVIDARE (NOT FORGOTTEN), where she creates a memorial honoring those who died passing the U.S.-Mexico border, to Huang Liu’s dripping paint in her portraiture suggesting the passage of time and embedded with Chinese visual culture, this is an exhibit to see. www.asiasociety.org 2. HMNS is awesome in the summertime for kids and adults! The Cockrell Butterfly Center offers various events this summer including butterfly release on Wednesdays, THURSDAY SMALL TALK (where CBC staff talk about insects) and FRIDAY FEEDING FRENZY is where snakes, toads and a praying mantis are fed in view of guests. Special exhibits include SHARK! Touch tank experience where you can pet a live shark; SAMURAI: THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR; and CHINA’S LOST CIVILIZATION: THE MYSTERY OF THE SANXINGDUI.
