No wonder hundreds of local establishments are buying the fruits of his labor. The duck breast was heroic, almost melt-in-your-mouth-level tender. And the blueberry ice cream with lemon sauce was a delightful finish. “I’ve tried to make the menu approachable, as Ian did with designing the physical space.” The cocktails are comfortable too, including what’s called Mother’s Hug with lavender simple syrup, vodka, heavy cream, egg whites and gin. I immediately felt comforted. As for the wine and craft beer lists, that would require an entirely separate column. • “The philosophy at the bar is it’s about having fun,” said Sammons. “Let’s not overcomplicate things.” DESSERT “We wanted people to be comfortable enough with the menus and surroundings to come here more than once a week,” Rosenberg said. • • Doughknots + cardamom sugar + honey $5 Lavender olive oil semolina cake + crème fraiche + candied lemon + local honey comb $8 It works.
