Living BIG in a small space with IKEA® By Carla Valencia de Martinéz | Photography by Vlady Ambia KALLAX GURLI HENRIKSDAL FRIHETEN BOKSEL With so many options out there in terms of home design – ranging from high to low price points, modern to traditional design, online or in-store – you have no excuse to not live large within whatever your means may be. And we are going to prove it … with a little help from our friends at IKEA. Sometimes you just have to think outside of the box. Just because a floor plan calls it a “dining room” doesn’t mean you can’t call it a “studio.” You can turn your space into whatever suits your lifestyle. Here we turned a one-bedroom flat into a workable space for a recently separated father of three. He knew he needed a space where the kids could visit and spend the night on occasion. But he also needed a space for his freelance work as a designer. 60 L O C A L | july 16 The FRIHETEN sofa bed with chaise in dark orange is the centerpiece in the living room. The color adds a happy touch, and the functional sofa bed option is perfect for sleepovers and movie nights with the kids. Personal touches like a soccer ball collection, a guitar and art coffee table books make the space homey. Additional CREDITS: MELLBY chair in turquoise with removable, washable cover; BOKSEL coffee table in white, on wheels for easy moving. The dining room doubles as a studio and is anchored by Tempaper’s Removable Wallpaper’s Kaleidoscope in Zinc. The bold graphic print turns an ordinary wall into an extraordinary centerpiece to the space. This is a great option for rental properties too. Available at www.tempaperdesigns.com.
