Tintype photo studio portrait photographer,
Assistant Professor of Photography, Kelly
Anderson-Staley, known nationally for her
work using the 19th-century wet-plate collodi-
on tintype process, will make portraits of mem-
bers of the Midtown Houston community using
a tintype photo booth. Visitors can observe
this historic photographic process and sit for a
portrait. The event is part of Anderson-Staley’s
public art project, Shelter in Place, that will be
installed in a public space in late 2018.
January 13 and 14.
HMNS is pleased to present the future through
the Reality Check exhibition, a dynamic and
ever-changing space where visitors will be
able to experience a new kind of reality.
Walk through the Colosseum. Travel through
space, extend your hand and touch the stars.
If you like scary stuff, make your way carefully
through a haunted house. All in the same
space and all…virtually. Due to content and
the ease of using the necessary equipment,
Reality Check is recommended for ages 12+.
Through January 21.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed for us to live
in a world where we would “not be judged
by the color of [our] skin, but by the content
of [our] character.” The Children’s Museum
of Houston is honoring civil rights leader Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., and his legacy during
their 22nd MLK Day Annual Celebration.
Children are invited to march down Kid’s Hall
in celebration of civil rights during a peace
rally. Sing African American spirituals. Listen to
uplifting, winning words by Gardere’s oratory
speech winner. Listen to “I Have a Dream,”
the speech that changed the course of history.
January 15.
