How much do you know about the Vince Lombardi Trophy , which is awarded to the winning team of each Super Bowl ?
• Its original design was sketched on a cocktail napkin by Tiffany & Co . Vice President Oscar Ridenour over lunch with NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle in 1966 . The design has not changed since .
• It ’ s made entirely of sterling silver by Tiffany & Co . in a Rhode Island workshop , and stands 22 inches tall and weighs seven pounds .
• The first trophy was awarded to the world-champion Green Bay Packers on January 15 , 1967 ; the Packers captured the trophy again the following year .
• Unlike hockey ’ s Stanley Cup , which is passed to the winning team each season , each winning Super Bowl team gets to keep its own Vince Lombardi trophy .
• During the victory ceremony , the statue is engraved only with “ Vince Lombardi Trophy ” . Upon completion of the ceremony , the trophy is returned to the Tiffany & Co . workshop where it ’ s engraved with the winning team ’ s name and “ Super Bowl [ Roman numeral ] Champions .” january 17 | LOCAL 57
