Going to the Dogs ( and Cats ) | Emancipet Opens New Clinic Emancipet , Houston ’ s nonprofit low-cost veterinary clinic , has opened its brick-and-mortar facility in the East End . The much-anticipated new clinic at 910 South Wayside Drive , with 2,800sf , includes three exam rooms ; larger areas for surgery , staff and animals ; and a large waiting room and restrooms for clients .
Emancipet ’ s mission is to make spay / neuter services and veterinary care affordable and accessible to all pet guardians . Since opening in Spring 2015 , Emancipet Houston has served 9,000 clients , providing more than 4,000 spay / neuter surgeries and 5,000 visits for vaccinations , microchipping , flea / heartworm medication and other healthy pet services . The new clinic will allow Emancipet East End to serve up to 40 percent more clients and decrease wait times . www . emancipet . org

Going Greener Hike-and-Bike Trail Opens on White Oak Bayou Greenway On December 9 , the Houston Parks Board , Memorial Heights Redevelopment Authority ( TIRZ 5 ), the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Harris County Flood Control District celebrated the ribbon-cutting of a new section of White Oak Bayou Greenway as part of the Bayou Greenways 2020 project . More than two miles long , the hike-and-bike trail provides a new off-street route for those traveling to and from Downtown , and one section showcases brick salvaged from the historic Yale Street Bridge . www . bayougreenways . org
