More than 800 Houstonians gathered at the home of Paige and Tilman Fertitta
to show their support for Houston Police Department officers at the 10th annual
Houston Police Foundation True Blue Gala. This sold-out event was a huge suc-
cess, raising the most money ever, with more than $870,000 in proceeds that will
provide equipment and training for the Houston Police Department.
The Houston Police Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation formed by
local business leaders to support projects of the Houston Police Department.
Donations fund special programs, officer safety, training, equipment and new
technology -- none of which would be feasible under the City budget.

More than 200 Steampunk aficionados traveled back in time October 27
when steam drove technological advancements at the Cheers to Your Health:
STEAMPunk fundraiser at The Health Museum. Incredible costumes were on dis-
play as guests mixed, mingled and explored the technology of wines, tonics and
potions presented by Goody Goody Liquor and Beyond Bartending, sampled
brews from Saint Arnold Brewery and feasted on decadent nibbles from Eddie V’s.
STEAMpunk Fashion Models stole the show, along with a fun Cosplay Costume
Contest.
Proceeds raised during the event will support all STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) programming available for families and youth
at The Health Museum.

The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s Ladies for Literacy Guild, along
with former First Lady Barbara Bush and luncheon chair Ginger Blanton, hosted
the second annual Power of Literacy Luncheon on Tuesday, October 24, at River
Oaks Country Club. This event shined a light on the importance of literacy as a
top priority for the city. The Ladies for Literacy Guild also unveiled the Curiosity
Cruiser, a 30-foot, custom-built library that will be donated to the Harris County
Public Library.
The event raised more than $350,000 to help support the Guild’s activities and
initiatives, including providing relief to teachers and children affected by Hurricane
Harvey.
On October 21, Dress for Success Houston Co-Founder and President Nancy
Levicki, event chairs Lindsay and Rand Holstead and Kelli Kickerillo and Todd
Forester, and the organization’s supporters celebrated the 19th year of empower-
ing women in the Houston community. The evening raised a successful $418,000.
More than 400 foodies enjoyed an evening of celebration and fun, as they dined
on gourmet cuisine at food stations throughout the building. This year's featured
chefs and restaurants who donated their food, time and talent included: Rachael
Volz, Paige Branam and Ryan Bouillet, A Fare Extraordinaire; Kelsey Hawkins,
Arte Pizzeria; Claire Smith, Alice Blue and Canopy, and more.
