Buffalo Bayou Park has been recognized as a winner of
Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Global Awards for Excellence
2017–2018, described by ULI as a “critical urban green
space.” Houston’s floodwaters frequently submerge much
of the park, necessitating creative design techniques to
establish a resilient park environment able to withstand
these destructive forces while protecting the investment of
valuable public amenities. Buffalo Bayou Park was one
of two projects in Texas to earn the 2017-2018 global
award, widely recognized as one of the land use industry’s
most prestigious awards programs. It is only the fifth Houston
area development to be recognized since the origin of the
award in 1979.
