SEEING THINGS DIFFERENTLY

It’s not every day you find a doctor who went into medicine
because he watched his father practice from a young age.
It’s even more rare to find a doctor who chooses a career
in medicine, first and foremost, because he enjoyed the
doctor-patient relationship so much.
But Dr. Colby Stewart, a board-certified
ophthalmologist who specializes in LASIK and laser cataract
surgery in Houston, chose his profession for just that reason.
Before even choosing a career, Dr. Stewart was spending
afternoons in his father’s office, observing and assisting his
father, Dr. Robert Stewart, an eye surgeon and one of the
founding members of Houston Eye Associates.
“I was a scribe for him. When he would examine a patient,
I would be writing down in the chart whatever his findings
were. It gave me an opportunity to see the doctor-patient
relationships and the problem-solving process. He would order
a certain test and do an exam and come up with a diagnosis
to help solve the patient’s problem. I was always fascinated
