WHERE TO LIVE NOW
MONTROSE
Beautiful mansions, bungalows and cottages surround Montrose and take you back to when it was first established in 1911. From Houston’s best restaurants and unique shops, to dog parks, schools and museums, the
four-square-mile area is booming with diversity every day. Whether it is spending the day in class at Lamar
High School, skating at the Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark, hiding from the bats under the Waugh Bridge or
enjoying art and having a picnic at the Menil Collection, you will never be disappointed with your decision.
INSIDER
TIM MOLONEY, owner of Colossus Communications, has lived in Montrose for 25 years and gives us
the lowdown on neartown.
What do you like best about living in Montrose? I like that it’s close to everything I like to do. On a
Saturday morning, I can knock out all my errands on one street or two in about an hour. And we
have great trees.
What do you think could be improved? The infrastructure. Our streets are falling apart. I’m also getting a little concerned about affordable housing for the traditional creative class. Everything’s being
mowed down for townhouses and luxury apartments. But, the land’s too valuable for anything else.
What are you most proud of regarding your neighborhood?
Weirdness and non-conformity are still welcomed. My heart soars at the sight of transvestites on Westheimer, as well as the live
action role players in Dunlavy Park.
