Several essential oils , especially Peppermint , Eucalyptus , and Basil ; are known to be cooling to the skin and there are many ways to take advantage of this properly . My favorite way to quickly cool the skin down is by making a cold water compress . Add 1 – 2 cups of cool water to a bowl , 5 – 10 drops of Peppermint , Eucalyptus , or Basil , and a few ice cubes . Swish the solution around with a soft cloth , wring the cloth out , and apply it to the head or neck .
Think about your needs on a hike . Energy , insect repellant , seasonal threats , maybe even cooling — these are all issues that essential oils can be used to address . Peppermint is a must ; just put a few drops in your palms and inhale whenever you are in need of a quick energy boost . You can make a cooling compress in a pinch with a towel and some water . You should never head out to enjoy nature without your Terrashield ® Outdoor Blend . Apply it to your legs , arms , and neck at the start of the hike and reapply as needed for an effective barrier . Lastly , you should have a bottle of Lavender in every bag you carry , regardless of where you are going .
