Bulgaria Social Teahouse Dobrich | Varna Milk Canteen Dobrich The Milk Canteen in Dobrich, Bulgaria, offers warm, healthy meals to children between the ages of 10 months and 3 years old. A 2018 renovation project updated the bathroom facilities for employees, complementing the 2017 renovation of The Milk Canteen kitchen. Since 2016, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has supported the efforts of The Social Teahouse. The Social Teahouse hosts a youth mentorship program to help young adults who are aging out of the orphanage system improve their social and technical skills. The Milk Canteen prepares between 1,000 and 1,200 portions a day, but did not have any back-up food preparation equipment. In 2018, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® updated the kitchen with new equipment to complement the 2017 kitchen renovation project, including an additional freezer and thermal boxes for food delivery. Community Center In 2018, the Social Teahouse expanded their program from the city of Varna to include the rural community of Dobrich, near the Esseterre Bulgaria distillation facility. This project is particularly focused on empowering girls by helping them develop marketable skills. In turn, these girls can pursue meaning ful professional endeavors instead of relying on prostitution to support themselves. Parents pay a small price for The Milk Canteen services, and can request that the food be delivered to them. Delivery is especially helpful during the winter when children are prone to getting sick. In 2018, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation provided The Milk Canteen with a second vehicle to make home deliveries. Dobrich The Dobrich Community Center hosts many community and cultural events, and includes a playground, the post office, the library, children’s art clubs, and a venue for cultural performances. Orphanage Dobrich The Dobrich orphanage cares for children between the ages of 3 and 18. Although the local municipality supports the orphanage with financing, the funds do not cover many of the building’s needed renovations. Poor plumbing in the orphanage bathrooms led to continuous leaking, causing mold. A 2018 renovation project updated the facilities, fixed the plumbing, eliminated the mold, and repainted the walls. To keep local youth positively engaged, the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation and Esseterre Bulgaria installed fitness equipment at the playground. 48 dōTERRA HEALING HANDS FOUNDATION I ANNUAL REPORT 2018 The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation provided funding in 2018 to update the community center’s sound equipment. doterrahealinghands.org 49
