Preparation for this attempt took months,
and involved volunteers from all across the
United States. To prepare for the attempt,
5,000 drawstring bags, 20,000 shields,
and 40,000 liners were all sewn and
sorted by hand, and then sent to dōTERRA
headquarters. Wellness Advocates that
attended the 2017 dōTERRA convention
brought with them donations of washcloths,
underwear, and bars of soap to include in
the kits.
Over 300 volunteers gathered together on
September 8, 2017, to assemble reusable
feminine hygiene kits while GUINNESS
WORLD RECORDS adjudicator, Jimmy
Coggins, observed the attempt. Volunteers
assembled and ran out of kit components
in just 36 minutes and 41 seconds. The
next day, Jimmy presented the GUINNESS
WORLD RECORDS title to the dōTERRA
Healing Hands Foundation and Celeste
Mergens, founder and CEO of Days for Girls.
The previous world record for the most
personal hygiene kits assembled in one hour
was set in January of 2017 at 1,002 kits.
The first 300 of the dōTERRA Healing Hands
Foundation’s 5,110 kits were distributed
in Kenya during a dōTERRA Cō-Impact
Sourcing® expedition in November of 2017.
